The Lucid Edge
About Guar
Guar gum is a natural, plant-based powder extracted from the seeds of the Guar plant, also known as Cluster Bean. Widely cultivated in India, especially in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Haryana, it’s used in food, personal care, and industries like oil and gas. The plant thrives in semi-arid regions, with harvesting in October after the monsoon. Guar gum is extracted from the seed’s endosperm, yielding both gum and protein. The crop is drought-resistant, and its growth cycle aligns with the monsoon season, with harvests in October and November.
The gum extraction yields about 28% gum and 65% protein, with the latter used as animal feed. Guar gum’s availability and price fluctuate based on weather conditions and market demand, but it remains a vital ingredient in various industries.
